Deferred Recruitment 101: How to Prepare for Spring Rush!

Last updated June 1, 2021! If you've been on the hunt for information about Deferred Recruitment, we think you'll agree with the following statement: there's not a lot of information out there for PNMs about how to prepare for spring rush! We hear you (and we've seen the same thing for ourselves), which is why we decided to put together a blog post bursting with as much information about Deferred Sorority Recruitment as we could find. Sound good? Then let's dig in! The Basics of Deferred Recruitment Overall, Deferred (Spring) Recruitment will operate exactly like Formal Recruitment that takes place during the fall. Behind the scenes of a dramatic Texas State dorm transformation that went viral!

Not to brag or anything, but we knew that Texas State freshman Skylar Bantz's dorm room was going to go viral the minute we laid (heart-shaped emoji) eyes on it. Since Skylar and mom Sheila Ybarra—a professional makeup artist based in Houston—first shared the drab-to-fab dorm room transformation earlier this week on social media, photos have been shared by Teen Vogue, The Today Show, Daily Mail, Elite Daily, and others. With before and after photos as dramatic as this, it's easy to see why Skylar and roommate Adeline are now the talk of Texas State (and, um, the world) in the best possible way! Gorgeous peel-and-stick wallpaper, glam metallic accessories, monogrammed ghost chairs, marbled desk skins...this dorm room has it all.  We love dynamic...

You know what almost everyone's favorite talking point is? Themselves. And that includes the sorority women you'll be meeting this fall during rush week!...

Sorority Rush Advice NOT to Take

We know that many of you are still in the process of sending off your sorority packets and gathering Recs + Letters of Support, which is great! Somehow, though, it is already MID JUNE. Meaning the start of fall recruitment is right around the corner. (What?) With that said, over the next few weeks we'll begin to really dig into the ins and outs of rush week. RUSH ADVICE YOU SHOULDN'T BE TAKING 1. "Avoid bringing up the five 'B Words': Boys, Ballots, Booze, Beliefs, and Bucks." Okay...this is a "yes and no" kind of thing. The "B Words" list—comprised of topics that PNMs should supposedly "never ever discuss" during recruitment week—has been circulating for years now. To be fair,...

How to Write a Cover Letter for Sorority Recruitment

We've all heard it before—"You'll never get a second chance to make a first impression." And that's exactly why we're such advocates of including a cover letter with each and every sorority packet you send out the door!  In addition to being a polite and professional inclusion, your cover letter is an excellent chance for you to share important information with the women completing a RIF and LOS on your behalf. With that said, let's break down the key components of a stellar sorority cover letter! FIRST THINGS FIRST Your cover letter should be addressed to the women completing your recommendations, NOT the sorority houses those recommendations will be forwarded on to. The purpose of a cover letter is to introduce yourself, share the "why" behind your...
